Bhagavad Gita Quotes on Death

Death as per Bhagavad Gita was only transient… ephemeral that facilitated movement of life from one phase of life to another. Unless death occurred in cosmic system… life simply could not evolve any further. Only after death of present body… our soul atman, the spirit within manifested another life form. In absence of death in cosmic system… the whole system would become stagnant… unworkable.

If death never occurred in human form… how would the decaying body manage itself any further? As per Bhagavad Gita… our soul atman, the spirit within was always immortal… it could never birth or die… it just existed from times immemorial. For a soul atman, the cosmic consciousness within… death truly carried no meaning. Occurrence of death in cosmic system was like changing of guards at Buckingham Palace.

When the old human frame became frail… it finally succumbed to death. The released soul atman immediately manifested a new life form based on residual balance of karma of previous life. If matching parents were not available on mother earth… the soul atman hibernated in heaven or hell. In heaven… if the residual balance of karma was positive and hell, if negative! Both heaven and hell (termed swarga and naraka in Hinduism) existed in sun.

Death of human body does not mean end of cosmic life. The entire life cycle of 8.4 million manifestations in life of a soul atman was one single uninterrupted unbroken circle of life. Before human beings reached stage of enlightenment… their soul atman witnessed millions of deaths and that too in human form. Enlightenment is not gained within one lifetime. As per Bhagavad Gita in the human form itself we had 1.1 million types of manifestations.

After gaining enlightenment… the fear of death vanished from human beings. Death of mortal body carried no meaning for an enlightened one. One who as a soul atman gained absolute purity… the reason for fear of death just did not exist. One who had become immortal forever… death carried no meaning! Great are those human beings who in their lifetime traveled path of spirituality finally reaching stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana).

After death of mortal body… the family weeps bereaved but in cosmic domain it was nothing more than changing of guards at Buckingham Palace. The complete philosophy of death rotated around doctrine of karma. As our karma… accordingly manifested our destiny! As per Bhagavad Gita… we were the absolute masters and controllers of life on mother earth. By molding our thoughts… by indulging in good karma, positive karma all the time we can manifest our destiny forever.

We as human beings must never fear death under any circumstance of life. Travellers of spiritual path always knew about this abstract truth of life. It was only practitioners of religion… rituals who feared death all the time.
