योगयुक्तो विशुद्धात्मा विजितात्मा जितेन्द्रियः ।
सर्वभूतात्मभूतात्मा कुर्वन्नपि न लिप्यते ॥५-७॥
Transliteration:
In Bhagavad Gita chapter 5 verse 7 Lord Krishna enumerates advantages of following path of nishkama karma yoga. One who had established absolute control over mind, one who had become a Jitendriya (conqueror of five senses)… one who was absolutely truthful in all affairs of life… one who identified his own soul atman, the spirit within with other souls atmans, such a Karma Yogi… was free of all bondages of manifest earthly life!
A truthful person finally succeeds in establishing total control over five senses and mind. Living with an unattached attitude and offering fruits of karma performed to God Almighty all the time… such a liberated one finally identifies self with all souls’ atmans existing in cosmos. The liberated soul finally joins the larger whole… God Almighty himself! Once liberated… dross impurities within could not bind one any further. One finally becomes a pure soul atman in all its glory.
The Explanation:
Bhagavad Gita chapter 5 verse 7 confirms advantages of following path of karma yoga. Lord Krishna says to Arjuna: remaining truthful all the time was the most important ingredient of spiritual path. Unless we were truthful all the time… one could never practice karma yoga truthfully and sincerely! Most human beings world over underestimated power of truthfulness! It is only by remaining truthful… one could hear the sweet small inner voice of our soul atman, that seemed to come from within our heart! Prompted by the voice of my soul atman… I finally cleared all hurdles of spiritual path… reached stage of self realization, god realization!
A practitioner of karma yoga finally succeeds in establishing absolute control over five senses and mind. Before total control over mind can be established… one needs establishing absolute control over five senses! Once we gain control over five senses… control over mind power comes automatically! Control over five senses comes in stages step-by-step. In the present Kali yoga, Dark Age… metal age establishing absolute control over five senses is a mammoth task, yet not impossible! If Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana could do it… so can others! It is living with an unattached attitude one finally succeeded in establishing absolute control over five senses and mind.
Furthermore offering fruits of karma performed to God Almighty all the time… one became free of all bondages of earthly manifest life forever! As stated by Lord Krishna… we are only an instrument in the hands of God Almighty doing his bidding. We were truly a trustee of God Almighty… nothing more! Nothing on mother earth belonged to us. As a true trustee of God almighty… we had to take care of all belongings that truly belonged to God all the time. As detailed in Bhagavad Gita our soul atman, the spirit within was the absolute master and controller of human body. As per this analogy… we were merely robot acting on behalf of our soul atman, the spirit within!
Doing bidding of our soul atman all the time is what spiritual path all about! Spirituality never demands indulging in rituals… going to temples, churches or mosques! Remaining wherever we were… we could always serve God Almighty in totality. By remaining truthful towards one and all… we were only serving the mankind! It is only in serving the humanity… we were truly serving God Almighty! All living beings world over were sons and daughters of God. In serving them… we were only serving God Almighty! The roots of spirituality laid in serving the mankind… never the individual self! The entire essence of Bhagavad Gita laid in serving mankind.
The moment we realized that our soul atman, the spirit within was of the same essence as all other souls atmans in cosmos… we realized the inherent unity of entire cosmos! As per doctrine of Maya (veil of illusion) put forward by Adi Shankaracharya, the whole cosmos was but gaseous formation… clusters of atoms and molecules! The human form appeared solid only when viewed from senses point of view… in reality, all was made up of basic building block of cosmos, clusters of atoms and molecules! When our soul atman, the spirit within was all the time governing… the ego of a human being (Aham in Hinduism) carried no meaning.
Listening to our soul atman, following path of absolute truthfulness is reaching God in no time! As stated by Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita chapter 5 verse 7… Every soul atman, the spirit within was God Almighty in miniscule form existing within all living beings. When all souls’ atmans all over cosmos were of the same essence… how could we distinguish self from others! When God Almighty existed within us in miniscule form as our soul atman, the consciousness within… where was the need for human beings to go to a Temple, church or mosque? In serving others sincerely and truthfully… we were only serving God Almighty in all its glory.
Once we realized these inherent cosmic truths of life… we would indulge in karma yoga as intended to be! Such a karma Yogi never bonds self to workings of earthly manifest life. Rather with passage of time one liberated self from cycle of birth and death forever. Negation of karma in entirety announced a soul atman regaining its lost pure prime pristine primordial form forever. It is only by travelling path of spirituality… human beings step-by-step in stages finally reached cosmic end of life when our soul atman, the consciousness within finally gained absolute purity forever! We must never forget… human form is the highest manifest stage in cosmic life cycle! It is only in human form our soul atman could reach cosmic end of life… 8.4 millionth manifestation, last in cosmic life cycle!
We are really lucky to be born a human being! As a human being indulging in nishkama karma yoga was truly unwinding self from fatalities of cosmic life! Indulging in karma with an unattached attitude was the biggest measure of travelling spiritual path… sincerely and diligently! Why hanker after ephemeral riches of life… when the truth lay elsewhere! In serving our own soul atman, the spirit within gaining absolute purity… we were only serving God Almighty!
