Bhagavad Gita Chapter 6 Verse 3

आरुरुक्षोर्मुनेर्योगं कर्म कारणमुच्यते ।
योगारूढस्य तस्यैव शमः कारणमुच्यते ॥६-३॥

Transliteration:

In Bhagavad Gita chapter 6 verse 3 Lord Krishna makes it explicitly clear to Arjuna that path of yoga, path of meditation can only be travelled by one who indulged in nishkama karma yoga to reach God. As per Lord Krishna… yoga was only meant for those who all the time contemplated on God Almighty. Contemplation on God Almighty was not that easy. Establishing total control over mind power was the most difficult task on mother earth.

Lord Krishna further says… contemplation on God Almighty via path of yoga became possible by establishing absolute control over five senses! Total control over five senses can only be established by reducing our desires and wishes in stages step-by-step. Control over desires and wishes was established when we surrendered our ego (Aham to God Almighty). Total surrender of ego (Aham) to God Almighty was a difficult task, but not impossible.

The Explanation:

Through Bhagavad Gita chapter 6 verse 3 Lord Krishna emphasized to Arjuna merits of travelling path of nishkama karma yoga that directly led to God Almighty! Nishkama karma yoga simply meant… offering fruits of karma performed to God Almighty all the time! This can only be achieved by establishing absolute control over our bloated ego (Aham in Hinduism). When we stopped feeding… adding fuel to our desires and wishes, we slowly but firmly started establishing control over our ego (Aham) and finally five senses!

Lord Krishna makes it absolutely clear that unless human beings succeeded in establishing absolute control over five senses, control over mind could never be established! As one gradually developed control over five senses… control on mind power followed automatically! And what does mind power actually mean? As detailed in Bhagavad Gita… no human being ever had an independent mind. We all have a brain that works like a transmitting and receiving station. All thoughts floating in ether, positive or negative are invoked by us based on our buddhi (intellect).

All positive thoughts are invoked by us from reservoir of mind plus and all negative thoughts from reservoir of mind minus! By gradually establishing control over five senses… we ultimately succeeded in stopping flow of incessant thoughts to our brain. One finally reached stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi (stage of absolute nothingness)… when not a single thought flowed to our brain uninvoked! Reaching stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi is culmination of all forms of yoga; one finally reached God Almighty in present life.

As per Lord Krishna… nishkama karma yoga can only be practiced by one who indulged in contemplation on God Almighty all the time. Contemplation on God Almighty simply means indulging in self enquiry (path of Neti… not this, not this) as preached and advocated by Maharishi Ramana, a spiritual master of the highest order who gained enlightenment in his lifetime. Self enquiry (Neti) by a traveler of spirituality is best practiced in shavasna pose of yoga, corpse pose yoga (the dead pose).

On path of pure yoga… indulging in thoughts of God Almighty all the time was a necessity of spiritual path! By offering karma, and fruits of karma performed to God Almighty all the time… one can easily negate karma to zero. Devoid of all dross impurities within… our soul atman, the spirit within finally regained its lost original pure prime pristine primordial form. A soul atman gaining absolute purity announces human beings reaching stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana in Hinduism)! The moment an enlightened one left mortal frame, human beings gained salvation moksha forever and the liberated soul atman finally reached abode of God, kingdom of God… termed Vaikuntha in Hinduism!

For a serious seeker of spirituality, inability to establish gradual control over desires and wishes was the biggest impediment in reaching God in present life! No matter what… one had to curtail desires and wishes by controlling our ego (Aham). When everything belonged to God Almighty… why hanker after ephemeral riches that could never be carried to next life? As per Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita… it is only residual balance of karma of present manifestation that moved to next life! At the time of death of body, the closing balance of present life (residual balance of karma) becomes opening balance for next manifestation.

At the time of death of body if residual balance of karma demands our soul atman manifesting form of a laborer in next life… one just could not be born a Prince! Miracles carried no meaning in spiritual world… nor could we expect mangoes to grow on a guava tree! Everything results from set laws of karma that were inherent in every living being. Understanding doctrine of karma in entirety was instrumental in our reaching God in present life. Path of spirituality, path of yoga truthfully demands human beings establishing control over desires and wishes to reach stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi (stage of absolute nothingness) in present life.
