Bhagavad Gita Chapter 12 Verse 8

मय्येव मन आधत्स्व मयि बुद्धिं निवेशय ।
निवसिष्यसि मय्येव अत ऊर्ध्वं न संशयः ॥१२-८॥

Transliteration:

Lord Krishna further advises Arjuna thus: O Arjuna! Invest your mind and intellect (buddhi) in me in totality. In spiritual parlance this means… absolute submission to God Almighty! Unless you submit to me in totality… you would never reach me, says Lord Krishna! Total submission to God Almighty simply means indulgence in karma that was directed towards God Almighty all the time! Total submission to God Almighty has a very far-fetched meaning.

In the present materialistic age… amongst 7 billion people existing world over, we may not find people in hundreds who were competent to undertake spiritual journey via path of total submission to God Almighty. Path of total submission demands annihilating our ego (Aham in Hinduism) to zero. One who had the capability to submit self to God Almighty in totality would finally reach me, says Lord Krishna! Ego can only be annihilated by establishing absolute control over five senses and mind.

The Explanation:

In Bhagavad Gita chapter 12 verse 8 Lord Krishna emphasizes the importance of total submission to God Almighty. In a nutshell, total submission to God Almighty means negation of ego (Aham) and karma in totality. Subduing our ego in totality in the present metal age seems out of bound. Only a very ardent seeker of spirituality like Swami Vivekananda could finally succeed in total submission to God Almighty to reach God.

Total submission to God Almighty is not a ritual. Just by going to temples daily and ritually… one does not submit self to God Almighty. Total submission demands absolute faith in God Almighty. In absence of hundred percent faith in God Almighty (termed shraddha in Hinduism) nothing much can be achieved in spiritual world. Developing hundred percent faith in God Almighty is not a days job. It does not take months, years to develop full faith in God Almighty but a long journey of many manifestations in human form.

Mounted by power of absolute faith in God Almighty… human beings slowly inched towards annihilating ego step-by-step! Before ego (Aham) can be abolished forever… we have to understand the underlying cosmic spiritual reality. We as a human being were but an instrument in hands of God Almighty. We as a soul atman, the spirit within manifested human form to work out its karma… remove dross impurities within. Perceived from godly angle nothing belonged to human form at any stage of life. At every stage of human life our soul atman, the spirit within was the ultimate master and controller.

At the most we were only a trustee of God Almighty. Whatever has been bestowed on us by grace of God Almighty… we had to take care of the same as a true trustee of God. This became possible when we annihilated our ego (Aham) to zero. When we truly realize that after death of present mortal body… something that passed to next life was residual balance of karma from previous manifestations, our indulgence in self vested interests reduced step-by-step! As worldly riches cannot be carried to next life after death of mortal body, it was in our interest to indulge in good karma, positive karma all the time so that our dependence on ego reduced day by day.

JRD Tata… who was a karma Yogi par excellence, all his life worked for welfare of mankind. Not for a single moment he believed he was the owner of Tata Empire. At every stage of life, JRD Tata believed in the fact that he was only a trustee of God who was entrusted the task of maintaining and successfully running Tata Empire. And in that… JRD Tata truly excelled! People like JRD Tata are rarely found in annals of history. Although JRD Tata did not know ABC of Hinduism or spirituality… he truly lived Bhagavad Gita every second of his life. People like JRD Tata are born once in millennia. The entire technological development of India primarily resulted from efforts of Tata Empire.

If people on spiritual path lived like JRD Tata… one would reach God in present life without fail. The principle of trusteeship is without a parallel in mankind. Only by living life of a true trustee, human beings can negate their ego in totality. As long as single trace of ego remained in human beings… why would one run after God Almighty! In the present materialistic age, attracted by glare of materialistic riches… most human beings pursued path of religion (path of rituals) that not only resulted in accumulating negative karma but also delayed the spiritual journey. More attachments in life led to increased burden of karma. Instead of negating karma… we were increasing the karmic burden.

One of the finest points stressed by Lord Krishna in bhagavad gita chapter 12 verse 8 was: living with an unattached attitude, those seekers of spirituality who finally succeeded in directing their buddhi (intellect) and mind power towards God Almighty… finally succeeded in their attempts, no matter what! Directing mind power towards God Almighty means succeeding in establishing absolute control over five senses. The moment that happened, one finally established absolute control over mind and reached stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi (stage of absolute nothingness)… when not a single thought entered our brain uninvoked.

After reaching stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi… there was nothing more to be achieved by a spiritual seeker! One could finally have communion with God Almighty every moment of life on one-to-one basis.
