बाह्यस्पर्शेष्वसक्तात्मा विन्दत्यात्मनि यत् सुखम् ।
स ब्रह्मयोगयुक्तात्मा सुखमक्षयमश्नुते ॥५-२१॥
Transliteration:
When human beings transcend material nature, rise above fold of five senses and mind; one gained absolute purity forever! Devoid of dross impurities within… our soul atman, the spirit within regains its lost original pure prime pristine primordial form. Such a human being, who works with an unattached attitude, finally places self in worship of God Almighty all the time.
Free of bondages of earthly manifest life… the liberated human being finally experienced highest levels of bliss possible on spiritual path! This stage of experiencing bliss is not temporal but permanent. One could all the time experience bouts of bliss, something that had no parallel in mankind! Even ecstasy experienced during sensual relationships was meaningless compared to bliss experienced while in communion with God Almighty!
The Explanation:
Through Bhagavad Gita chapter 5 verse 21 Lord Krishna explained to Arjuna merits of remaining in communion with God Almighty all the time. One devoid of dross impurities within, finally reached stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi (stage of absolute nothingness) when not a single thought entered our brain uninvoked. The bliss experienced during stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi had no parallel in mankind… something that could never be expressed in words ever!
The pleasures of spiritual path, experiences of spiritual path could never be detailed in totality in words! It is not so that one experienced happiness all the time. For seekers of God, travelers of spiritual path… eating hell for breakfast was occasional! Spiritual journey was like walking on a precipice, the path of unknown! Only a person possessing willpower like Swami Vivekananda was competent to indulge in spirituality to reach God.
One engrossed in material and sensual pleasures of life… never truly understood what spiritual journey was all about! Such human beings always travelled path of religion (path of rituals) that never led to God Almighty! Only when one becomes totally unattached to pleasures of mortal world… does one travel spiritual journey sincerely and diligently. Five senses always dragged human beings to dungeons of hell.
Only a serious seeker of spirituality who had the inherent willpower to practice patience, persistence and perseverance of the highest order finally succeeds in reaching God in present life. Reaching God in a limited time span of 70 to 80 years of earthly life was a very difficult task. Only one who started spiritual journey early in life finally succeeded in overpowering five senses and mind. To overpower senses one had to be truthful to our true inner self all the time.
Indulging in vice, material riches we could never expect to reach God in present life. Most human beings world over did just that. On the spiritual path… going to temples, churches and mosques carried no meaning! Lord Krishna explicitly says that God Almighty existed within us in miniscule form as our soul atman, the spirit within! To pray to God, worship God one need not go anywhere else. Remaining wherever we are, we can indulge in sacred teachings contained in various scriptures of different religions of world.
The sermon of Bhagavad Gita given by Lord Krishna in battle of Mahabharata was so potent that following teachings contained in Bhagavad Gita, any human being world over could easily establish absolute control over five senses and mind and reach God Almighty in present life. One single scripture like Bhagavad Gita was sufficient for human beings to cross over ocean Samsara (worldly life) to reach God. The difficulty arose when we start reading Bhagavad Gita literally. Everything in Bhagavad Gita can only be understood by reading in between the lines.
To enjoy bliss… to remain in company of God Almighty all the time, one must learn to establish absolute control over five senses and mind! This can be accomplished in stages step-by-step. The sense objects could not be overcome just by indulgence in various senses. If we had to remain truthful all the time to reach God, then we must learn to practice truthfulness in all affairs of life… every single moment! Not a single lapse is permitted on path of absolute truthfulness.
Control over senses takes time! By listening to sweet small inner voice of our soul atman, the spirit within we can exercise that special power of discrimination that distinguished truth from untruth! Some a stage when our soul atman, the spirit within starts prompting from within to follow path of dharma (righteousness) all the time. Those easily attracted towards material riches can never overpower senses within this life. There also was never a shortcut path to reach God.
Human beings who think self realization can be imparted by a spiritual master were mistaken! Unless we removed dross impurities within our soul atman, the spirit within… one could never reach stage of enlightenment… also termed self realization, god realization! Path of karma is always travelled individually and no spiritual master can ever remove bad karma of a spiritual seeker… no matter what! It has rightly been said… as many human beings, as many different paths to God Almighty can there be!
Every soul atman within every living being has to reach God one day. Whether we undertake spiritual journey in present life or leave it for future manifestations is our sole individual prerogative, in which none world over can interfere… not even God Almighty! We have been endowed by God Almighty with free will, that special power of discrimination which helped mankind distinguish good from bad! Prompted by power of our free will, we definitely can reach God in present life… only if we really wanted to!
